Hicktown Student Athlete Expectations

PLAYERS are expected to:

  • Commitment.  Make every effort to be at every practice, game and tournament both home and away.  Each team will encompass 11-13 players. If one or two of those players are missing, it makes practices/games very difficult.  Everyone is making sacrifices to put baseball 1st, make baseball important and make it a priority in your life.

  • Display good sportsmanship.  YOU are responsible for your actions.  Understand that you represent more than just the name on the back of the jersey, but the community that is across the front of your jersey as well.

  • Learn the game of baseball and practice it.  Coaches have limited time with you during the week or games to practice and work on things.  Serious ball players will find time at home to work on their skills and utilize the tools and techniques shown by their coaches.

  • Communicate with your coaches if there is something that does not seem right.  As a part of growing up, it is important for you as a player to communicate with your coach.  If you have a sore arm, if you are going to miss a practice for some reason, or if you’ve played pitcher or catcher before are all good things to communicate.  Your position in the batting order or not pitching on a certain day is an example of what you should not worry about.

  • Put your team first!!  Be a good teammate and cheer others on when it is your time to be out.  It’s a lot easier when everyone is pulling on the same side of the rope.

  • Give 100%, 100% of the time.  Work hard for yourself, work hard for your team, work hard for your coach.  You will be amazed at how good you can be when you apply hard work.

  • Focus on the things you can control.  You can always hustle, you can always be positive, and you can always do your best.  You can’t stop everything from happening that doesn’t go your way, but your reaction to what happens, will have  a lot to do with your success on the next play.

HAVE FUN!!!  You’re young, it’s baseball, what else can you ask for?
